Passionate about empowering physiotherapists through knowledge transfer to embrace their pivotal role in managing MSK conditions within the current healthcare space by coaching patients self-efficacy and implementing clinical decision-making in biopsychosocial rehabilitation.

Dr Linda Steyn

BSc. Physio (UOFS), MSc. Physio OMT (UP), Ph.D. Physio (NWU)

Linda holds a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) (UOFS). She furthered her academic studies and completed a Masters degree in Physiotherapy, with Orthopaedic Manual Therapy as focus area, at the University of Pretoria. She continued with her postgraduate studies at the North West University and received her Ph.D. degree with a thesis titled “Management of cervical biomechanical dysfunction in schoolboy rugby players using a manual physiotherapy technique.”

During her term as Quality Improvement Portfolio Chair for the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) she strived to improve the standards of physiotherapy in South Africa. Subsequently, she was elected as president of the SASP and during her term as president endeavoured to further the profession in South Africa. The ultimate goal was to facilitate physiotherapy service delivery to all relevant patients in SA.

She has been involved in postgraduate training for physiotherapists at Wits, the SASP’s ANMS and Sport courses as well as assisting on ODNS courses since 2008. She presented at various SASMA, SASP, WCPT and PainSA congresses. One of the highlights of Linda’s career was forming part of WCPT’s panel debates on “Exercise is Medicine” and “The future of Physiotherapy globally” in Singapore 2015.

Linda works in private practice and values her role as part of a multidisciplinary team in managing chronic pain patients. She also enjoys treating patients with complicated acute conditions and challenging sports injuries, an interest which was sparked while touring extensively with the national netball teams as one of their physiotherapists.
